Help! The pipes between my boiler (potterton) and my immersion tank clank very loudly?

each time I switch it to 'on', then, the boiler cuts off and has to be re-set (the manual says it has overheated). I am not working, and can't afford a plumber, so need to try and sort it out myself. Please help.
