Mixedrace "Middleground": Is history repeating itself?

By 2050 the white race in American will no longer be the majority race. They will be outnumbered by minorities: Hispanics, Blacks, Mixedrace, Asians etc. From what I've read, some whites are fearful, or so they claim, that they will end up being treated (by minorities), in the same or similar way that many of them have treated minorities for centuries. (I don't agree with this although, since I feel that minorities are a lot more forgiving. I think the America of the future may more closely resemble the successful racial/social makeup of NYC.) Historically, and at certain regions of the world, when whites have been outnumbered by non-whites they have "permitted" a mixedrace group of people to self-identify and grow, as they did in Haiti. And they have subsequently occupied a "middle buffer zone" between whites and the larger black population. Today, for the first time in American History, we are seeing the popularization of the mixedrace identity, and we are seeing racially mixed persons openly self- identifying as such. They have even found support among the far right. My question is, how do you feel about this? Is history repeating itself?
