Any TNT remedies for eliminating squeak in wood floors?

I don't know if this is an old-wives tale or not, but I read in a book about how they did housework in the 'old days' and it said that if floorboards squeek, you should put a lot of tal powder (baby powder - but the eco-friendly kind), rub it into the crevices and carefully wipe away the rest. Supposedly, that is supposed to help (don't ask me how, but it is worth the $2 to try). Hope it works
